            <title>Cancer fundraising concert in Berwick</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p><span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image" style="display: inline;"><img alt="Beechy Colclough" src="http://berwick.journallive.co.uk/what'son/beechycolclough.jpg" width="200" height="247" class="mt-image-right" style="float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;" /></span>A concert is organised in Berwick this month in aid of the Berwick and District Cancer Support Group, headlined by Beechy Colclough (pictured).</p>

<p>Beechy is bringing a band and backing singers to the Berwick upon Tweed Drill Hall for an evening of soul, rhythm and blues, supported by local musicians Stephen Cockburn and Gary Holland. </p>

<p>The singer-songwriter has returned to writing and touring after a period of 27 years and has recently completed his debut album.</p>

<p>Tickets are available from the Berwick and District Cancer Support Group at 5 Tweed Street, Berwick upon Tweed, TD15 1NG, priced at £10 and £8 concessions. People are asked to mark the envelope "The Beechy Concert" and make cheques payable to "The Berwick and District Cancer Support Group". Tickets can also bought be bought from various local businesses in the town- see local posters for details.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Second World War exhibition at Berwick Library</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>An exhibition that tells the story of two linked communities during the Second World War has been launched at a Northumberland library.</p>

<p>The Big Lottery funded Their Past Your Future II project examines life in Berwick and its Polish twin town Trzcianka during the Second World War.</p>

<p>The exhibition, administered through the Museums, Archives and Libraries Partnership, runs at Berwick Library in Walkergate until March 15, before going to Wooler Library and Wooler Book Fair from March 17 to 27.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Art classes beginning at Berwick Parish Centre</title>

<p>Annabel Milne is determined to bring art into people's lives both through classes and also by taking children to visit art galleries for the very first time in their lives.</p>

<p>She has a wide background in art, including studying fine art at St Martin's College of Art in London, doing an MA at Edinburgh College of Art and then working at Tate Britain and in art publishing as well as teaching art and design and art history.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Homecoming for film about Hardy family</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>A film about a North East family of fishing tackle makers is to have a homecoming this week.</p>

<p>The Lost World of Mr Hardy, which tells the 136-year history of Alnwick's renowned shop Hardys, will be shown in Alnwick today and Berwick on Friday..</p>

<p>The film is about the value of craftsmanship in a global economy preoccupied with quantity.</p>

<p>The homecoming screening is at Alnwick Playhouse today from 7.30pm and the showing at Berwick's Maltings Theatre on Friday at 7.30pm.</p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Churches in Northumberland have released dates for services to pray for unity across the world as congregations in Berwick and District come together for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2010.</p>

<p>This year, global organisers asked Scotland to host the week  to mark the centenary of the first world mission conference that met in Edinburgh. </p>

<p>In Berwick and the surrounding area, there will be worship and fellowship over refreshments, and everyone is invited to join in.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Christmas market in Berwick</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>A Christmas market will take place in Northumberland.</p>

<p>The Berwick Farmers' Market is to showcase a range of festive goods when it meets this weekend.</p>

<p>Handmade wreaths and jewellery, dry seasoned logs, free range chickens, and cakes and puddings, will be among the stalls offering their produce to visitors. Other stalls include organically produced vegetables, dairy products, cheese and bread, olives and more handmade crafts. Seasonal music will also be provided by members of the brass and woodwind sections of the Maltings Concert Band.</p>

<p>The market will be on Sunday December 20, from 10am-1.30pm, at the Maltings Theatre and Arts Centre, in Berwick upon Tweed.</p>]]></description>

<p>A green Santa will welcome youngsters at the National Trust's Lindisfarne Castle off the Northumberland coast.</p>

<p>The original "Santa" figure wore a long green hooded cloak and a headdress of holly, ivy and mistletoe .</p>]]></description>

            <title>Theatre group touring wintery tale </title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Northumberland Theatre Company (NTC) is to take The Last Snow Rider by Ann Coburn round village halls and small arts centres across the country this winter, beginning tonight.</p>

<p>The play will be at Etal Village Hall on the 18th December at 6.30pm and at St Paul's Church Hall in Spittal for a 1.30pm matinee performance on 6th January.</p>

<p>The cast includes NTC regulars Kim Evans and Gemma Clough and newcomers William Reay from Bellingham and Christopher Ranson.</p>

            <title>Berwick Barracks exhibition showcases North talent</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>WORK by artists from across the North East is on show at an exhibition in Berwick.</p>

<p>More than 140 artists from the region and the Scottish Borders are taking part in the annual Gymnasium Gallery Open Exhibition, which runs at the gallery at Berwick Barracks until December 12.</p>

<p>The exhibition, which has taken place for the past three years, is open to both amateur and professional artists and is one of the largest of its type in Northumberland.</p>]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>People living in north Northumberland are being encouraged to give their views about plans to build a new hospital.</p>

<p>Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is organising a series of roadshows to find out what people want from a new hospital at Berwick.</p>

<p>The trust plans to replace the existing Berwick Infirmary with a new, purpose-built facility and is to take a mobile exhibition trailer to a number of communities.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Berwick hosting hearing health event</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>People in Berwick are invited to find about more about hearing health.</p>

<p>RNID is running an information stand at Berwick Infirmary on Friday, October 23 from 10am to noon.</p>

<p>Volunteers will be available to discuss ways visitors can protect their hearing and quickly address any hearing loss they or their loved ones are experiencing.</p>

<p>People can also find out about products, equipment and services which can improve the everyday lives of people who are deaf or hard of hearing.</p>]]></description>
