Holy Island classes bring glad tidings

Given that they are taught in different locations depending on the tide, it's no surprise that the children of Holy Island are so flexible when it comes to learning the curriculum.

Holy Island and nearby Lowick and Ellingham First Schools operate in a federation, meaning that the Lowick site provides schooling for the eight youngsters from Holy Island when the causeway is clear.

Children at Lowick School on the mainland

Lessons take place on the island when the times of the tide stop the children crossing to the mainland.

An appeal fund for the restoration of the 150-year-old organ in the parish church at Berwick has now topped the £100,000 mark.

The fund was launched just over a year ago and has a target of £155,000 and the vicar, Canon Alan Hughes, has appealed to residents in the town and surrounding area to support the appeal.
