Back to Church Sunday is now the largest single local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism - that we should invite someone we already know to something we love; invite our friend to our church. The initial focus was to invite 'back' those who used to attend, but we want to ensure that anyone who doesn't currently attend can be guaranteed an especially warm welcome.

The main focus is on the personal invitation of one church member to one friend. Back to Church Sunday raises a high media profile as tens of thousands of Christians offer this invitation at the same time.

In Berwick-upon-Tweed some of the Churches are putting on special events. Others chose to continue with their regular services. Either way, the most important part of the day will be to offer a warm and honest welcome to people.

St Andrew's Wallace Green and Lowick Church of Scotland, Berwick-upon-Tweed will be open all day. Starting with a Family Service at 11am and concluding with Desert Island Hymns at 6pm, the Kirk will remain open all day offering a light meal (soup, bread and something sweet), tea, coffee or juice. There will be activities for youngsters and a quiet room set aside for prayer, or just a bit of peace. This is an opportunity to come and see what the church can be like not only during worship and also at other times. We are hoping that it will be a lively day with the buzz of members and visitors appreciating a small part of Christ's work in the town. If you have only half-an-hour or are prepared to stay all day, you would be made very welcome.

To be held in Berwick United Reformed Church on Main Street, Spittal, on Wednesdays, 9th 16th 23rd 30th March and 6th and 13th April from 12.00 noon.

Parking is available on Main Street and on Middle Street, Spittal.

Berwick United Reformed Church and Berwick Methodist Church extend a very warm welcome to all members of the community to join with them in this year's series of Lent Lunches.

Following the practice of previous years, invited speakers will give talks on a chosen theme. The theme for this series is 'Heroes for the Faith' -the subjects not necessarily being biblical.

The charitable organisation to be supported by the series is 'Help for Heroes'.

We begin with a light lunch from noon, costing £2.00 and the talk will begin at 1.00 pm.

A Village Life, by Mary CooperA new touring play that examines rural life in Northumberland is visiting Spittal later this month.

'A Village Life', commissioned by Northumberland Theatre Company, is described as a serious comedy set in the fictional village of Aldale, which is preparing for a Best Village contest.

The play was written by West Yorkshire-based playwright Mary Cooper, who visited the county while researching the play and spoke to locals about the issues that affected them, including high house prices, the loss of local services and venues, and disputes over the use of land.

The play is at St Paul's Church Hall, Spittal at 7.30 on Tuesday 16th March. Phone 01289 306387 for ticket information, and visit www.northumberlandtheatre.co.uk/ for more details and listings of other venues.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu at the Cheviot Centre in WoolerMusic greeted the Archbishop of York as he travelled to some of the northernmost parishes in England yesterday.

The archbishop saw regeneration work at Kirkharle Courtyard near Ponteland and went on to Wooler, calling at the Cheviot Centre where he was greeted by teenagers from a local school playing steel drums.

This year, global organisers asked Scotland to host the week to mark the centenary of the first world mission conference that met in Edinburgh.

In Berwick and the surrounding area, there will be worship and fellowship over refreshments, and everyone is invited to join in.
