Berwick Rangers miss chance to go top

Berwick Rangers 1, Queen's Park 1

Jimmy Crease was not prepared to be over-critical after his Berwick side failed to unseat Livingston and take over at the top of the table.

"During the course of the season we will have blips like this and these are challenges that we will have to overcome," said the Borderers' manager.

"Quite simply this was an under-par performance. We did not play well at all and our distribution was poor."

The manager was angry his side had conceded "a terrible own goal" as Graham Guy's bungled attempted header back to Mark Peat from a harmless Robert Walker cross gifted the Spiders the advantage after only seven minutes.

"I thought Graham Guy headed the ball needlessly because there was no real danger and it ended up in the back of the net," he said.

"Fortunately we responded with a quick equaliser. We created three good chances near the end when we might have won it but a lack of composure or over anxiousness in front of goal let the players down.

"There is no doubt this was a missed opportunity to go top."

Despite the own goal, the visitors' lead was short lived with Rangers striking back five minutes later as man of the match Andy McLean moved forward to head his first goal from a Stuart Callaghan free-kick.

Both sides created openings and Rangers had a string of chances to clinch it late on but failed to find the target with Alan Brazil guilty of the miss of the match, blazing over from only a few yards with the goal gaping.
