Acklington 1, Berwick Town 9

Berwick Town took away a massive haul of goals at the weekend when they travelled to Acklington's ground. There were 10 goals during the game and only one of them ended up in the back of Berwick's net.

The others came for the visitors courtesy of an Andrew Gibson hat-trick, two from Stuart Coyle, and a goal each from Lee Lambert, Sean Simpson, Alan Jess and Terry James.

Meanwhile the reserves kept the home fires burning with a 4-3 win over visitors Wooler. Stuart Payne knocked in two of the homeside's shots, with Michael Antcliffe and John Yule getting the other two.

A council is to give refunds to people who have signed up to a garden waste scheme amid lack of bins.

Berwick Borough Council is shortly to return money paid by customers following the extension of the scheme into Berwick and the borough's coastal villages, because it is still unable to provide them with wheelie bins.

The council ordered the bins at the beginning of the year but they are yet to arrive.

Coun Isabel HunterA NORTH council leader has come under fire for supposedly not living up to her promise to fight for her borough at county level.

Coun Isabel Hunter, Liberal Democrat leader of Berwick Borough Council and executive member for health and wellbeing at Northumberland County Council, was questioned by Conservative former mayor Coun Lance Robson at the borough authority's latest meeting.

Coun Robson referred to Coun Hunter's previous comments she is " fighting for Berwick" and for the appointment of Berwick officers on the new single council for Northumberland which comes into force next April.

Berwick ladies hockey team were thrown straight in at the deep end after a long journey to Ilkley to start their season.

The game against Ben Rhydding started at a quick pace, and Berwick found themselves under unwanted pressure. But excellent defence from Fairbairn and Powner, and a great save from Sanderson kept them level.

Berwick found their feet and created some chances of their own, a strike by Robertson forcing the keeper into a save.

Berwick Rangers 3, Annan Athletic 0

Berwick Rangers gave the Shielfield Park gloom a lift with their first victory since the opening league game of the campaign.

And the result also registered their first clean sheet in 42 matches.

Annan, who are unbeaten in their previous away outings, played the final 25 minutes with only 10 men after Gary Brown was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball.

A council has rubber stamped the transfer of its housing stock, saving the authority £7.5m.

Berwick Borough Council approved the actions taken to achieve the "successful transfer" of 2,000 authority owned homes to a registered social landlord.

Berwick Borough Housing (BBH) will manage the stock in partnership with the Three Rivers Housing group, under the banner Four Housing Group, once the changeover is complete on November 3.
